About

Mashael is a film photographer and creative from Bahrain. After completing her degree in Urban Design from UC Berkeley in 2016, she moved to Dubai to pursue a career in city planning. At the same time, she began delving into photography as a tool to communicate the narratives of place.

Mashael's photography echoes her interest in spatial politics but also her love for psychology of built environments. Her work takes the form of visual essays in which she aims to present themes of space, gender, and cultural tension.

Mashael recognizes the importance of female photographers' work, particularly in the Middle East. She uses her work to challenge normative narratives of the female experience.
