Mashael Al Saie (b.1994) is a Bahraini photographer and filmmaker based between Bahrain and New York. While pursuing her B.A in Urban Design at U.C Berkeley, she began experimenting with film photography as a medium to unpack the nuances of female Arab experience and spatial politics. Mashael names her photographic series ‘visual essays’, where she primarily focuses on female focused narratives that embody coming of age experiences within Arab society. Her artwork often presents itself in an ethereal manner, reflecting the subjective imprint of memory, both personal and collective . Mashael is currently pursuing her Masters in Film and Photography at New York University (NYU).
